When Vincent lived in Paris with his brother Theo, he became close friends with fellow Dutch artist Arnold Koning. Vincent referred to him as the ‘Young Koning’ and they were practically joined at the hip. Often traveling around suburban Paris to paint together. Most notably, Montmartre.
Vincent and Theo had a personal collection of their friend Arnold Koning, which included four cityscapes and four portraits, believed to have been made during his time in Paris. Two of those are noted here.
Vincent and Arnold shared several correspondences after Vincent left for Arles.
